January 10, 2010 Many of us know the “right” foods to eat, but often we eat too much. One of the keys to weight management and good blood sugar control is proper portion sizes. This includes portions at home and when eating out! Take out your measuring cups to see what ˝ cup and 1 cup portions look like. Measure your portions for a week or until you have a good eye for judging the amount. When eating out, you can use your fist as a measuring tool. A women’s fist is about ˝ cup measurement and the palm of her hand is about 3 oz. Every 3 – 4 months, repeat this exercise as you will find that portions sizes tend to increase over time. |
