February 24, 2010 Did you know that sports drinks are designed to be consumed only during exercise lasting longer than 1 hour of duration due to their high concentrations of sodium (salts) and sugar? A typical size sport drink (591 ml) has 8 tsp of sugar! That is the same amount of sugar found in a can (355 ml) of pop. If your exercise routine is less than 1 hour long, have water, 100% fruit juices or low fat milk to stay hydrated. Aim for 6-10 cups of fluid per day to ensure your body is properly hydrated! |
